An imaginary game... Mr. B sinks a little deeper. An important moment in the story, where Mr. B, locked away in his solitude, fights for his mental survival by replaying the great chess games he discovered in a book stolen from a Nazi soldier. He no longer plays in his head, but brings all these grand masters to life in his room-prison. He invites them, one after the other, to break his solitude by replaying their mythical games with him. In this watercolor plate, the colors are light and luminous, providing a moment of respite from the tortured daily life of the "Chess Player".David Sala
