Hermann COMANCHE Series of five original illustrations, portraits of Comanche, Red Dust, Ten Gallons, Toby "Face-sombre" and Clem "Cheveux-fous", published in the Journal de Tintin Belge n°32 of August 7, 1973. Signed. Gouache and graphite on paper 13 x 19,4 cm (5,12 x 7,64 in.) Comanche is a western series created in 1969 by Hermann and Greg while the latter was still editor in chief of the Journal Tintin. Its ambition is to compete with the westerns of Spirou (Jerry Spring by Jijé) and Pilote (Blueberry by Jean Giraud and Jean-Michel Charlier). The originality of Comanche is that the main heroine is a woman - a rare thing until now in comics and even unthinkable in the field of westerns - and that the scenario is more hard boiled than its competitors, joining the contemporary trend in Hollywood with directors like Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Horde, 1969). While the portraits of the two main heroes, Comanche and Red Dust, are of a marmoreal placidity, those of Ten Gallons, "dark-faced" Toby and "crazy-haired" Clem are more baroque, as if taken from life.
