JEAN-PIERRE GIBRAT THE SURSIS Dupuis Original illustration realized in 1999 for the poster of the 11th festival of Comics of Solliès-Ville. Signed. Acrylic inks and watercolor on paper 22 × 30 cm (8,66 × 11,81 in.) Beautiful portrait of Cecile, made for the famous Solliès-Ville Festival. We find the heroine of Le Sursis in an attic, where we can see the landscape of the town of Solliès, clinging to its hillside with the church of Saint-Michel-Archange as an overhang. This scene in an attic obviously alludes to the album Le Sursis where Cécile's lover, Julien, hides there to avoid the Obligatory Labor Service. Except for this nuance, the comic books in the attic are much more contemporary: Cécile holds in her hands La Route vers l'enfer, a rather funny album by Daniel Goossens, which makes Santa Claus a winded hero at the end of the race. This fluid illustration contrasts with the usual priming of the artist's plates. This is what makes it original. It is that, freer, it focuses on the splendid light that offers this magnificent small village of the Var. This poster of Solliès, it was just a small move of the Sursis in the Var, same light, a steeple which could be aveyronnais Maginot also followed, even the sewing machine was part of the luggage. I could have called this drawing "Cecile on vacation". Jean-Pierre Gibrat
