MORRIS
MORRIS LUCKY LUKE Lucky Luke, original illustration for a dedication made in the 1980s. Signed. India ink and colored inks on paper 20.9 × 29.4 cm (8.23 × 11.57 in.) Morris was one of the few postwar Europeans to travel to the United States to work in a studio to study the minimalist efficiency and skill of comic book artists. For five years, he immersed himself in the spirit and technique of the talented artists of MAD magazine: Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Davis, Mort Drucker, Wallace Wood... On his return to the flat country, Morris kicked - politely - the ass of the slumbering European comic strip and revolutionized the daddy-style comic strip by imposing an inimitable punchy style! Priority was given to sharp framing, to the rigorous purity of the settings, to the maximum legibility of the line. As for the color, as a worthy precursor of Pop Art, Morris immolates the traditional, dusty coloring on the altar of the narrative impact without embellishment. This drawing synthesizes all the sobriety of the subject and the fluidity of its inking; the elegant brushstroke and the science of clothing folds: suggesting the maximum, with the minimum of lines... Great Art! Yann
