MANARA - Lot 65
MANARA MILO MANARA Manara Memory, Éditions Paquet 2001 Pink mermaid, original illustration made for a for an advertising drawing for Fastweb Signed. Coloured ink on paper 29.8 × 39.8 cm (11.73 × 15.67 in.) One of Milo Manara's unmistakable influences is the poster artist and painter Alfons Mucha, of the Art Nouveau movement, who invented this type of portrait of a woman in a floral ornament. But Manara does not offer the public hieratic icons like Sarah Bernhardt, almost divinized. His women are natural and above all very real, the archetype of which is very recognizable by those enticing eyes and that moist, slightly half-open mouth evoking desire. But we are here in an advertising creation, as in the case of Mucha. From then on, the decoration becomes serpentine and comes to modestly camouflage this breast that one cannot see.
