BATEM MARSUPILAMI The Tail of the Marsupilami (T.1), Marsu Productions 1987 Original plate n°42. Signed. India ink on paper 35.9 × 46.7 cm (14.13 × 18.39 in.) The big box of movement and humor opening the plate is, to quote Andy Warhol, the 15 minutes of fame of the tapir. The Marsupilami's muscular ally ricochets from opponent to opponent, like a pinball going from bumper to bumper. Here, every detail is worth examining. "However, when the album came out, a TV presenter said: 'Good news, the Marsupilami is back. Bad news, it's not Franquin who draws him anymore' My father would have ripped his eyes out. Shortly after, Franquin gave me this plate 42 and said, 'it's really very good! Later, contemplating the face of the little Indian in the last strip, the one where Bobo, the young black Marsupilami, swipes his tail, he remarked, 'Look, you've done a little Walthéry!' I retorted that Natacha's style had not inspired me. But Franquin heard that I had given my character the features of François, and that was not wrong!
