JUILLARD
ANDRÉ JUILLARD The Blue Notebook, Casterman Original illustration, poster for the exhibition La Boîte à dessins d'André Juillard at the Museum of Art Thomas Henry in Cherbourg in 2006. Signed. Graphite, India ink and colored inks on paper 45 × 36 cm (17.72 × 14.17 in.) Splendid illustration by André Juillard, all in nostalgia, to evoke the retrospective exhibition dedicated to him in 2006, during the Biennale du 9e Art, at the Thomas-Henry Art Museum in Cherbourg. Juillard evokes his influences: we recognize in particular the rocket of Objective Moon of Tintin, the Swordfish of Blake and Mortimer, the Yellow Mark, but also the evocation of the artist's own career, from Masquerouge, his first series, to the Blue Notebook, the last work to date for which he received the Grand Prix of Angoulême. Finally, the location of the exhibition is celebrated: Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, whose Art-Deco transatlantic station by architect René Levavasseur can be seen in the foreground, as well as the model of the transatlantic ship featured on the mantelpiece. On the occasion of an exhibition at the Cherbourg Museum, I wanted to evoke my universe as it would be perceived by the visitor: a set of research and inspirations that have fed my career.
